Miami Beach Residents Have Final Hours to Vote for City's Next Public Art Acquisition
Miami Beach residents have until 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, to cast their votes in the city's 2025 Legacy Purchase Program, which allows the public to select artwork that will become a permanent fixture at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
The annual program, coordinated with Art Basel Miami Beach, gives residents a direct voice in expanding the city's public art collection. The City of Miami Beach's Art in Public Places Committee has narrowed the field to three finalists from emerging artists participating in Art Basel's Positions, Nova and Galleries sectors.
This year's finalists include Ximena Garrido-Lecca, represented by Livia Benavides Gallery with "Modulations - Sequence XXIX" (2024); Patrick Dean Hubbell, presented by Nina Johnson with "You Guided Our Prayers For Generations, We Will Continue To Persevere" (2025); and Ken Tisa, represented by Kate Werble Gallery with "Heaven" (2019-2022).
The winning artwork will be purchased by the city and installed for permanent display at the Miami Beach Convention Center, adding to the community's cultural landscape at no additional cost to taxpayers through the Legacy Purchase Program.
Voting remains open until Sunday at 5 p.m. at www.miamibeachfl.gov/legacy-purchase-program. The city encourages residents to view all three pieces before making their selection.
The winning artwork will be announced publicly on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 9:30 a.m. during the Art Basel Miami Beach Prelude Opening.
The Legacy Purchase Program represents Miami Beach's commitment to supporting emerging artists while giving residents direct input in shaping their city's public art collection. The initiative focuses specifically on early-career artists, providing them with significant exposure and the opportunity for their work to become part of a permanent municipal collection.
Art Basel Miami Beach, one of the world's premier art fairs, takes place annually in Miami Beach, drawing international collectors, artists and art enthusiasts to the city.
