The Miami Beach City Commission voted 7-0 on March 18, 2026, to expand the "Forever Proud" lightpole banner initiative into additional corridors within the Art Deco Cultural District, while also directing staff to explore a companion banner program featuring Israeli flags near the Wolfsonian museum. The item, R7K, was sponsored by Commissioner Alex Fernandez and co-sponsored by Commissioners Laura Dominguez, Monica Matteo-Salinas, and Tanya K. Bhatt.
The original "Forever Proud" program, launched in October 2025, placed twelve 3-by-7-foot banners along Ocean Drive, 12th Street, and Washington Avenue to celebrate LGBTQ+ visibility. The approved expansion targets Washington Avenue from 12th to 11th Street, 11th Street from Washington Avenue to Ocean Drive, and Collins Avenue from 11th to 12th Streets, subject to feasibility and available funding. Commissioner David Suarez proposed the Israeli flag banner addition, citing rising antisemitism and the Wolfsonian's historical ties to Miami Beach's first Jewish mayor, with the location spanning Washington Avenue from 10th to 11th Street and along 10th Street to Lummis Park.
City Attorney Ricardo Dopico indicated his office will review whether displaying Israeli flag imagery on banners requires any amendment to the city's land development regulations before implementation can proceed.
