Miami Beach Proposes Slashing Settlement Authority Threshold, Adding Commission Oversight to Claims Process

A resolution set to come before the Miami Beach City Commission on April 22, 2026 would dramatically curtail the independent settlement authority of City Manager Eric Carpenter and City Attorney Ricardo J. Dopico — cutting their power to resolve insurance claims from $200,000 down to $50,000 per claimant, and inserting the full Commission into the decision-making process for any settlement above that threshold.

Miami Beach Condominium Association Sues Property Manager and CAM Over $811,555 in Allegedly Fraudulent Payments to Sham Construction Company

A Miami Beach condominium association has filed a sweeping 10-count lawsuit in the Circuit Court of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit in and for Miami-Dade County, alleging that its property management company and licensed community association manager conspired — or at minimum grossly neglected their duties — to funnel more than $811,000 of resident funds to a fraudulent construction company that performed no work on the property.

Woman Sues Target Over German Shepherd Attack at Miami Beach Store

Fabiana Fernandes has filed a lawsuit in the Circuit Court of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit in and for Miami-Dade County against Target Corporation and an unidentified defendant named as "Jane Doe," alleging she was "viciously attacked and injured" by a German Shepherd inside the Target store located at 1045 5th St, Miami Beach, FL 33139, on or about December 21, 2024.

Cyclist Sues Miami Beach Police Over 11th Street Collision

A Miami Beach man has filed suit in Miami-Dade Circuit Court against the Miami Beach Police Department and one of its officers, alleging that a police-operated vehicle struck his bicycle on April 12, 2024, causing severe and permanent injuries. The complaint, filed April 10, 2026, under case number 2026-007365-CA-01, names Officer Bryan Craig Arrington individually as a defendant alongside the department.
