Miami Beach Appoints Steven Anthony as Economic Development Director

The Miami Beach City Commission approved the appointment of Steven Anthony as Economic Development Director on March 19, 2025. Anthony brings over 18 years of experience in banking, finance, and economic development, including leading Kansas City’s Economic Development Corp, where he helped attract Meta and Google, creating 5,000 jobs and $3 billion in investment. A Georgetown MRE graduate, he will guide business growth and investment in Miami Beach.

The City Commission approved a resolution consenting to the appointment of Steven Anthony as Economic Development Director for the City of Miami Beach .

Background and Experience

Anthony is a veteran executive with more than 18 years of experience spanning banking, finance, and economic development. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Business Development at the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, where he helped attract companies such as Meta and Google, creating nearly 5,000 jobs averaging $76,000 per year and generating more than $3 billion in new capital investment .

He previously served as Senior Economic Development Manager at Pepco Holdings in Washington, D.C., leading efforts to attract and retain businesses across multiple jurisdictions. His career also includes roles as a business advisor, board member, and private-sector leader through his firm, Anthony Global Holdings .

Education and Recognition

Anthony holds a Master of Real Estate from Georgetown University, a B.A. in Business Administration from Dillard University, and a Certified Banking & Credit Analyst (CBCA) certificate. He has been recognized as a DCI Top 40 Under 40 in Economic Development and a Dillard University 40 Under 40 honoree .

Role in Miami Beach

As Economic Development Director, Anthony will oversee business attraction, retention, and expansion initiatives to strengthen Miami Beach’s tax base and local economy. City Manager Eric Carpenter cited his “dynamic leadership” and experience aligning economic development strategies with community needs as key factors in his selection .

Fiscal Note

The position is fully budgeted within the General Fund, according to the commission memorandum.
