Miami Beach Names William MacDonald as Parking Director
The Miami Beach City Commission approved the appointment of William MacDonald as Parking Director on February 26, 2025. MacDonald brings over 13 years of executive experience, including leadership at the University of Florida and Denver International Airport. A UCF graduate and Certified Administrator of Public Parking, he will oversee citywide parking operations, enforcement, and mobility initiatives as Miami Beach advances its transportation modernization efforts.
The City Commission approved a resolution consenting to the appointment of William MacDonald as Parking Director for the City of Miami Beach .
Professional Background
MacDonald brings more than 13 years of executive experience in parking operations and over 17 years in customer-service management. Most recently, he served as Senior Director of Transportation and Parking Services at the University of Florida, overseeing more than 26,000 parking spaces and a $12 million transportation contract serving four million passengers annually. He previously led parking operations at Denver International Airport, managing 53,000 spaces, a $230 million revenue stream, and more than 300 staff . His earlier public-sector experience includes managing Pasadena’s municipal parking assets and serving as a management analyst in the city’s Department of Transportation.
Education and Certifications
MacDonald holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Central Florida and multiple industry credentials: Certified Administrator of Public Parking (CAPP), ParkSmart Certified Advisor, and Certified Parking Professional (CPP). He also served honorably in the U.S. Army and Air National Guard, achieving the rank of Sergeant and receiving several commendations .
Role and Outlook
As Parking Director, MacDonald will oversee citywide parking operations, enforcement, and mobility programs at a time when Miami Beach continues to modernize its transportation systems. City Manager Eric Carpenter cited MacDonald’s leadership and operational experience as key to advancing customer service, efficiency, and innovation within the department .
Fiscal Note
The position is fully budgeted within the Parking Fund, according to the commission memorandum.
