Pedestrians navigating the Lincoln Road corridor near Drexel Avenue encountered the project's most visible phase yet this week, as construction crews moved from underground utilities to street-level sidewalk work at two separate locations — signaling a new, more tangible stage of one of Miami Beach's most significant infrastructure investments.
According to a project update issued Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026 by the City of Miami Beach, the contractor for the Lincoln Road District Improvements at Drexel Avenue began two above-ground operations on Thursday, Aug. 20 that will affect sidewalk access throughout the project limits.

What's Being Built and Where
Drexel Avenue at 16th Street: Sidewalk reconstruction began at the intersection of Drexel Avenue and 16th Street on the north side of the road. Pedestrian access will remain open on both sides of 16th Street, and access to the 420 Garage entrance will always be maintained. This portion of work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.
Drexel Avenue at Lincoln Lane North: Crews also began reconstructing a portion of the north sidewalk on Lincoln Lane North and Drexel Avenue, adjacent to the New World Symphony. The city noted that pedestrian access will be maintained as the contractor prepares the area for upcoming crosswalk work.
Hours and Schedule
All construction will be performed weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The city noted that schedules may change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.
What This Means for Residents and Visitors
The city is transforming Drexel Avenue between 16th Street and Lincoln Lane North. As part of the Lincoln Road Phase II District Improvements, the project will convert a portion of Drexel Avenue from Lincoln Lane South to Lincoln Lane North into a pedestrian-only corridor, supporting a safer, more walkable environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.
While construction is underway, restaurants and retail on Lincoln Road remain open for business to all locals and visitors.
